Melt Flow Index Tester
Melt flow index tester is used to measure the melt flow resistance (MFR) of a wide range of thermo-plastic materials in limited interval of time.
- Description
Testing Method | Melt Flow Index Tester (MFI) |
Description | Melt flow index is the ability of a material to flow in limited interval of time so that material can be used in any process machine, which has certain limitations based on flowability of material used. The melt mass-flow rate (MFR) and the melt volume-flow rate (MVR) provide the basis of characterization of the flow behavior of thermos-plastic polymers. MFR stands for melt mass-flow rate and was named also as MFI (melt flow index) in the past. MVR stands for melt volume-flow rate and is named also as MVI, melt volume index.
Melt flow index tester is used to measure the melt flow index MFR in g/10min and the volume flow index MVR in cm³/10min of pellets, powders or fine granules of a thermoplastic polymer. The testing procedure of MFR and MVR should be carried out according to ISO 1133 and ASTM D1238. |
